About the Author

Lacy Mucklow (MA. ATR-BC, LPAT, LCPAT) is a registered, board certified, and licensed art therapist who has been practicing art therapy in the Washington, DC area since 1999. She has experience working with a variety of mental health populations and settings, including schools, home-based counseling, and hospitals with adolescents, families, and adults. Lacy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art from Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Arts degree in Art Therapy from The George Washington University.

Angela Porter is a self-taught artist who finds inspiration in nature, especially ammonite and other fossils. Much of her work is abstract with flowing lines, shapes, and colors that create textured and detailed artworks. She works with technical drawing pens, watercolors, inks, colored pencils, and metallic paints and pens. She lives in South Wales.

Variety of Hand-Drawn Designs in a Portable Format – designs are printed on one side of non-perforated page

[[VIDEOID:a4715fdac4dab41995bbfc57a69758df]]This is appears to be a Portable version of Color Me Calm by Lacy Mucklow and Angela Porter. I don't have the larger version as yet (but will be purchasing it in the future), so I can't confirm that 100% of the designs in this book are also in the larger book. However, I looked at images from the larger book and I do see that a number of those images are also present in this book. If you have the prior book and you are looking for something new, please watch my video to be able to make an informed decision as to whether this book will work for you. I count 70 designs if you include the half-finished designs at the beginning of five of the chapters (the first one is fully colored.) There are only 65 designs which are not colored at all.

It is a smaller sized book that is actually quite nice for taking on-the-go. The designs cover a wide range of subjects and are well printed for making coloring easy. There are many intricate and small details on these designs (perhaps from being sized down from the larger book), so I think that a steady hand and good eye are helpful when coloring in this book. The author and artist give information about coloring therapy and how colors effect us. There are also two colored samples at the beginning of each chapter. The last page of each chapter is a blank page in which we are encouraged to draw and color ourselves.

The six themed chapters in this book are: Mandalas, Water Scenes, Wooded Scenes, Geometric Patterns, Flora and Fauna, and Natural Patterns. Each chapter has a number of designs that correspond with the title. I like that as some days I am in a mood to color a specific type of design and this makes it easier for me to find it. The product description currently mentions “Spirituality” but I could not find a chapter with that heading. Hopefully, this will be corrected sooner than later. If so, my apologies but I don't seem able to edit my reviews once my photos are attached, so this warning will remain regardless of corrections to the product description.

The book is approximately 7.5 x 6 inches and is a full half inch thick. That makes for a tall book to color in but I found it doable if I positioned myself properly. I could not get the book to lay flat but as the designs were well away from the binding, I didn't have any problems getting into all corners for coloring.

The designs are actually printed on one side of the page. The reverse side has a colorful line design that is the same for each page of the chapter. I consider that to be a very pretty page for possible waste. The pages are not perforated. The binding is sewn rather than glued, so pages can be removed (a number at a time) by snipping the threads. Unless I want to frame or give a design away, I will probably not be cutting these. I will be using the book as a carry around coloring book and I don't want it cut in pieces.

All of my markers (both water and alcohol-based) bled through the page. My gel pens (Fiskars and Tek Writer) did not and didn't need more than average time to dry on the surface of the page. My various coloring pencils (both soft and hard leads) worked well on the paper. If you are using markers, you will need to protect the rest of the book from leaking ink as it went all the way through the page (even my trusty Staedler triplus fineliners.) I cut down a piece of chipboard to the size of the book and am keeping it in the book to carry around with me. That way, I can use whatever coloring medium I choose with it. I'm inclined towards ultra-fine markers and coloring pencils because of the small details.

Perfect for taking with you. Most of my coloring books are rather large and too big to carry in my purse. This one is the perfect size to take with me and use while waiting for anything. Beautiful pictures and good paper quality.

Robert Cornuke has traveled extensively overseas, leading and participating in numerous expeditions to find verifiable historic sites and artifacts from biblical history. Bob is founder and president of the Bible Archaeology Search and Exploration (BASE) Institute located in Colorado Springs. He holds a PhD in Bible and Theology from Louisiana Baptist University and serves as special advisor for the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools. Are the remains of Noah's Ark resting on a mountain in Iran? The answer is still a mystery, but Robert Cornuke, a former policeman turned biblical explorer, definitely has "ark fever." Kevin King reads Cornuke's first-person account with a feverish tone that sometimes gets a little too "gee whiz" but also reveals the person behind the search as he deals with Middle Eastern authorities, injuries, hikes through terrorist strongholds, and, in one instance, a guide who shares the explorers' food with the hungry, leaving them scrambling for sustenance. Must Read

I usually don't read a book through in one night but did this book. Cornuke does a great job writing of his adventures to find Noah's Ark. His fortitude and commitment were commendable and rewarding. I hope there is a follow up to what he has discovered. Cornuke also gives an inspired insight into salvation. This is a must read.

Well-named book: Ark Fever really is a disease!

I just finished listening to the audio version of this book. Cornuke has climbed Turkey's Mt. Ararat numerous times, but finally decided that the biblical "mountains of Ararat" were more likely to be in present-day Iran.

Admittedly, Cornuke's adventure stories are often interesting, but the whole premise of his search is flawed. There is nothing in the Bible to indicate that Noah's ark still exists; no biblical prophecy that the ark will ever be found. Think about it. Doesn't it make more sense that the ark would have been recycled to other uses by the post-diluvian settlers? Wouldn't there have been a shortage of worked lumber after the flood, making the ark's wood extremely useful to the flood's eight human survivors? If the ark was still on Turkey's Mt. Ararat (Agri Dagi), wouldn't one of the numerous expeditions have found it by now? The mountain seems pretty-well searched at this point. (To his credit, Cornuke eventually realized that the Ark wasn't necessarily on Turkey's Mt. Ararat, and expanded his search to Iran.)

I have no reason to doubt Cornuke's Christian bona fides, but, frankly, the end of this book was off-putting to me. Cornuke writes as though the rock formation he found in Iran on Mt. Suleiman is certainly what Ed Davis saw and thought was the ark back in WWII, but, of course, Cornuke cannot possibly prove that.

He also writes as though the rock formation on Mt. Suleiman is probably petrified wood. Now, a couple of years ago I saw his photos, posted on the Internet, and the rocks have features that bear a superficial resemblance to wook grain, but there are other geological explanations for that, such as as "foliation" caused by folding and metamorphism. Moreover, unlike Mt. Ararat, Mt. Suleiman is not a volcanic mountain that would produce the chemicals necessary to petrify wood, so it would be anomalous to find petrified wood there. The only way to tell for certain is to examine the speciman under a microscope to look for cell structures that will be present in petrified wood, but not in plain rock. So all Cornuke needed to do was to brink back a sample of the rock. But he didn't do it.

He didn't do it, he claims, because he feared being arrested. But this claim is truly remarkable, because the previous 200 pages of the book describe Cornuke's countless illegal actions. Most of his expeditions were without official permits; he spent literally thousands of dollars bribing the Turkish Military and the Kurdish PKK guerillas who control the higher altitude areas around Ararat. He walked around with $30,000.00 in cash under the insoles of his boots, for purposes of doling out bribes. Even in Iran, he went to places that he did not have permission to go, and hiked up mountains he didn't have permission to climb. Now, at the end, when he claims to have found the petrified wood of Noah's Ark, he expects us to believe he would not bring out a piece of rock for fear of getting arrested? Come on.

I'm afraid that, deep down, Cornuke knew he didn't find anything remotely like Noah's Ark, and that bringing back specimens would prove beyond any doubt that all he found was an interesting rock outcrop. And I think Cornuke wanted to keep alive the notion that he found Noah's Ark, for purposes of selling his books, raising money for his BASE institute, making the lecture circuit, etc. This is tawdry, and doesn't reach the high standard to which Christians are called.

About the Author
Sushil Bikhchandani is a Professor in the Anderson School of Management Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. His teaching and research interests include auctions, market institutions, herd behavior and information economics. Professor Bikhchandani has published in numerous academic journals, including Theoretical Economics, Operations Research, the Journal of Economic Theory, and Econometrica.

Jack Hirshleifer (1925-2005) was an American economist and long-time professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He taught at the University of Chicago from 1955 to 1960, and thereafter at UCLA until 2001. Professor Hirshleifer was well known for his work on uncertainty and information in economics, the economic analysis of conflict, and bioeconomics. His undergraduate textbook, Price Theory and Applications, went into seven editions. A 1958 article by Hirshleifer began the triumphant comeback of Irving Fisher's theory of capital and interest, now deemed canonical.

John G. Riley is the Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. A Fellow of the Econometric Society, his research has appeared in eminent journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, the Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Economic Theory, and the RAND Journal of Economics. Professor Riley is the author of Essential Microeconomics (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and co-author, with the late Jack Hirshleifer, of the first edition of The Analytics of Uncertainty and Information (Cambridge University Press, 1992).

About the Author
Andrew Hunt is an experienced teacher, examiner and author. He has taken a leading role in the Nuffield Chemistry, Twenty First Century Science and Science in Society projects. He taught advanced chemistry course in schools for 20 years and has written a variety of successful chemistry textbooks including an AS and A2 textbook/CD-ROM series. In 1988 I was awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry Award in Chemical Education. I was a founder member and director of the Association for Science Education's SATIS project to promoted the public understanding of science through the school curriculum. This interest continues with the development of a new AS course called 'Science for Public Understanding'. I am also part of the management team for another ASE project called Science across the World which creates opportunities for students in schools all over the world to explore issues related to science in society and then exchange their findings with students in other countries by fax or e-mail.

Best I've read In A Long Time...

This book motivates me!

Upon opening this book I thought I knew everything about NLP and how it affects learning and the potential of the mind. I have read countless books on NLP and had the preconceived belief that it was mainly used in therapeutic settings and that one needed to seek out a professional in order to get the maximum potential of what NLP can do for your life... Boy, was I in for a shock.

This book opened my eyes to a whole new level of thinking and I encourage everyone who thinks they know NLP or speed-learning to read and use this excellent book. There were so many good things about this book, but what I really appreciate about it was the fact that it got me motivated. It is different from so many NLP books because there are some excellent real-life exercises that you can do to improve, not only your learning, but your self-belief that you are unteachable... at least for my case.

After going through this book, I can see how this is going to help me with some of my own personal struggles with A.D.D. and other so called, "disabilities" that I thought I had my entire life... these beliefs that have been holding me back. I discovered that I was holding on to some of these beliefs my entire life because they were crutches and these crutches enabled me to stay in the same state of mind for over 30 years.

The exercises are so easy to do, but if you follow the simple instructions in this book (and take notes like I did), you will find them extremely easy to do and before you know it, you'll see a big improvement in your learning abilities.

This book is more than just a new way to speed-read or how to overcome sluggish learning... to me, it's a barrier-breaker! Again, I highly recommend this book to anyone who thinks that learning is boring or that they are incapable of going to the next level.

Value for Money

This is a quick and easy-to-read guide for using some basic NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to enhance your ability to think, read, learn, and retain information quickly and easily. Mike writes as if he's talking directly to you, and packs in a variety of approaches, exercises, and examples that are quick and useful.

On the downside, there seems to be a formatting glitch (or maybe it's just me and my new Kindle)that puts the footer with title and page number not at the bottom of the page where it should be, but right in the middle of the text. So I'm reading along and hit things like "think NOW about when in 90 Speed Learning Secrets of NLP the future you're going to show..."

It's also kind of amusing that the assumption seems to be that I'm reading a physical book, even though this is book is available electronically, so in the accelerated-reading section, for example, suggestions like "breaking the spine of the book" (my librarian mother is turning over in her grave!), "focussing" on the "blip page" between the two open pages of the book, and using the blank back pages of this book to practice mind-mapping absurdly ignores the fact that I'm reading an electronic copy on a small screen. As more and more material these days is being read on computers or electronic readers (or even phones), some of the tried-and-true rules for speed reading need altering.

Still, there's lots of useful information here, and for high school or university students who are struggling with reading and learning a lot of material quickly it offers some very practical advice. In spite of the hiccups, at 99c, this book is good value for money.

Reading Secrets Revealed

As a reading specialist I appreciated learning a new way of reading. The techniques that are focused in this book really did help me with reading faster. We do not need to read word for word anymore.

I love the questioning techniques that this book listed and I teach them to children when they are reading non-fiction books. The author did an outstanding job previewing the book, asking questions, and using the table of contents. I highly recommend that you read this book.
